Where have we been!

Category: Uncategorized

We have been working on some very cool tools and solutions for clients and also trying to get our internal site up and working.

Here is a quick flavour of some of the solutions and development we have been working on over the last two months.

1) EDMS – We have completed a proof of concept site for a company that wants to scan in documents and assign metadata to them. These scanned documents will then form part of the current SharePoint document library and have the standard metadata taxonomy applied to them. The concept was to make searching for documents easier and to deliver a solution at considerable less cost than the current solution. We have used SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Dark Blue Duck and Metalogix software as a platform to deliver this solution.

2) CRM – We found for our smaller customers a fully blown CRM solution was a bit of overkill so we developed a simple to use and search CRM system within SharePoint 2010 Foundation. We have linked this to Outlook 2010 to deliver a simple to use contacts/CRM system.

3) Data Visualisation – We have been working with a company to produce some KPI’s based on helpdesk support SLA’s. The idea is that the client currently uses a SharePoint issue tracking site and wanted a way of easily showing the performance of the helpdesk on the main intranet site. We developed a range of drawings in Microsoft Visio 2010 and linked them with conditional formatting to a SharePoint list. This has then allowed us to show a colour coded set of measures to all colleagues within the organisation.

4) Fleet Management – We have created a lovely little site for fleet car management, the site allows managers to set reminders for multiple vehicles to cover various milestones and tasks. The site also links in to company policy records to ensure the latest H&S documents and company policy docs are online and found in the appropriate place. The site also tracks drivers and licence information including endorsements. We are further developing this site to cover a vehicle to driver matching process.

5) Quality Control Workflow – We have developed an approval workflow that manages version control on highly critical quality manuals for commercial aeroplane maintenance. This was recently audited by the CAA and was passed as suitable for the client’s quality control process.
This is a flavour of the work we have been doing over the last two months, to be honest it’s nice being busy and working on some very interesting and exciting projects.
I must also say that the best bit about all of this work is the fact that it is in SharePoint 2010 which in my opinion is just so much better than 2007.

In July we will be working on a new purchase order approval system and email management system for one client, a fully blown document management solution for another, more internal site creation and more learning and exams (To meet the new Microsoft Partner Network requirements).

We will also be at Microsoft WPC 2010 in Washington DC! (July 9th to 17th)

Oh and its football (FIFA World Cup) and cricket (Nat West Trophy) and Tennis (Wimbledon) and beer and barbeques!
