SharePoint 2010 – What are we going to do about it?

Category: Microsoft Office, SharePoint 2007, SharePoint 2010, Uncategorized

Well we are fast approaching the release of SharePoint 2010 and I for one am looking forward to getting stuck into SP2010 and what it can do.

Firstly we have been using SP2010 since the day the beta was sent out and we have been using Office 2010 in a semi production basis for a few months now too.

We have always worked on the principal that we let other people take the new release of a Microsoft product and not adopt it until service pack 1, however, I must say that Microsoft put so much into a beta tests these days that I am very happy to let our customers loose on SP2010 and Office 2010 on release (if they have a good business case to do it).

We now have moved all of our development into a SP2010 environment and look to backward engineer it to WSS or MOSS.  These are major steps but in a very short time we have managed to cut development time and create a lot more functionality.

We have actually now produced a prototype site that utilises document scanning and the drop off library in about half the time it would have taken in 2007!

I about to start a new series of blog posts all focusing on what we are doing in SharePoint 2010.  This will include the following:

1)      Document Management and Drop Off Libraries

2)      Taxonomy, Meta Data and Search

3)      Visio Services,  KPI’s  made easy (ish)

4)      How to migrate from 2007 platform

5)      Foundation vs Server vs Enterprise

I am sure we will also find out lots more between now and then and will gladly share what we have found.

So stay tuned to a new series of super-duper bloggages.

That is all ……
